Selection and Sealing of Body Fasteners

This paper discusses the design of exterior ornamentation retention. Various new types of plastic fasteners are described and their design parameters defined. The corrosion resistance of fastener materials and protective finishes is provided and their use in combination with the body panels and the exterior ornamentation is reviewed. The reasons for sealing all fasteners and the common types of sealers are outlined. The specific intent of the paper is to show that the proper selection and sealing of the exterior ornamentation fasteners contributes greatly toward increased durability and customer satisfaction in any automobile.
