Multiple Hollow Sphere Core Sandwich Fabrication

1991-09-01
912217
Sandwich structures fabricated with a core of hollow spheres offer performance and cost advantages over honeycomb core structures for many advanced aerospace applications. This lightweight isotropic core provides strength and stiffness with a minimum of weight -- a critical requirement in many advanced applications. Cost savings can be achieved by replacing expensive machined solid members, co-bonding the core and panel, reducing consumable tooling and cutting production fit-up and assembly time.

Advanced Nacelle Structures

1990-09-01
901984
Aircraft nacelles were originally fabricated completely out of sheet metal. Advances at Rohr have enabled the implementation of new materials in an overall effort to reduce weight and improve aircraft performance. This paper deals with new metals and their fabrication techniques as well as Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC's) and their processing techniques.
