Knowledge Management in R&D Departments of Automotive Companies

2011-10-04
2011-36-0048
For many years the knowledge in an organization has been very well treated and protected, by a discipline widely known as Knowledge Management (KM). Despite it can be consider one of the main pillars of any automotive research and development (R&D) department, several companies do not pay attention to it as they should. Who does manage and apply it appropriately certainly has been granted with innumerous business opportunities, maximizing the usage of its resources, reducing development and validation time consumption and minimizing the inherent risks of new projects. This paper covers pure KM concepts and presents several tools and practices that have been proven very good and effective for knowledge identification, storage and usage by R&D departments.

Data Communication Protocols on Aircrafts On-Board Electronics: A Study of their Application around the World

2004-11-16
2004-01-3315
It is clearly perceived the exponential growth of on-board electronics on several technological segments. On aerospace segment that is not different. Besides those propulsion and navigation fundamentals systems, necessary on most part of the aircrafts, many complex electronic systems are required: for the treatment of information sent by either landed equipments or other aircrafts (often found on military applications), and for comfort and entertainment systems (most related to passenger transportation applications). In any case, the amount of available and exchangeable information between these systems is fairly huge. Such data exchange would be easier performed if were made through the application of a communication protocol. This paper lists and analyses the communication protocols used by most part of the current and future aircrafts. The intention of this document is to be a study guideline of avionics related protocols.

The RDS (Radio Data System) as a Transmission Way of Information for Automotive Vehicles

2000-12-01
2000-01-3194
Real-time information, standardized and interacting with radio broadcasting listeners during the time they spend driving their cars, could be extremely interesting and useful whether it offers public concerned information and make feasible the complete application of the system (hardware and software) it is based on. The RDS (Radio Data System) standard, which modulation characteristic is based on the concept its data signals are carried on a subcarrier which is added to the stereo multiplex signal at the stereo encoder, make feasible this benefits with extremely low cost, for the listener and even for the broadcaster. Being applied in Europe for more than 15 years, the RDS offers features that improve the operation of the receiver and take advantage of the architecture available in some vehicles through remote actuation of many parts of the car.
