Monocoque Vehicle Body-In-White Life Evaluation Using Torsion Endurance Test on Rig

2016-04-05
2016-01-0276
In an automotive product development environment, identifying the premature structural failures is one of the important tasks for Body-In-White (BIW), sub-assemblies and components. The integrated car body structure i.e. monocoque structure, is widely used in passenger cars and SUVs. This structure is subjected to bending and torsional vibrations, due to dynamic loads. Normally the stresses due to bending are relatively small compared to stresses due to torsion in Body-In-White under actual road conditions [1]. This paper focuses on evaluating the life of Body-In-White structures subjected to torsional loading. An accelerated test method was evolved for identifying failure modes of monocoque BIW by applying torsion fatigue. The observation of the crack generation and propagation was made with respect to a number of torsion fatigue cycles.

Innovative Methodology for Durability Evaluation of Off Road Vehicle Rear Axle under Bi-Axial Load Condition using Single Linear Actuator

Rear axles are subjected to bending and torsion loads out of which Bending loads are predominant. In case of Off road vehicles Bi Axial- combination of Bending and torsion loads were predominant, because of axle construction and vehicle usage pattern. Defined test procedures are available for bending durability and torsional durability evaluation of axles. In this experiment, new test methodology was developed for Bi Axial durability evaluation of Off road vehicle rear axle with single servo hydraulic linear actuator. For creating Bi Axial load condition, we may need multiple actuators and complicated fixtures. Axle wheel end is constrained at an angle with suitable fixtures for creating the bending and torsional forces together in the axle. Servo hydraulic linear actuator with suitable loading arm is used for applying the test torque in the axle input flange.

Simulating Human Body Touch Automotive Tests Using Industrial Robot & Intelligent Grippers Equipped With Sensors

All Automotive companies conduct various performance and Endurance tests on automotive bodies, doors by using Pneumatic Actuators. These Actuators can only give linear or rotary motion. Therefore these can neither simulate the complex motion of Human arm nor can they simulate the Force and pressure induced by the Human palm or Human back on the body domain parts. Each test need to have different test setup. This paper discusses how a system of industrial Robot coupled with intelligent Gripper with sensors and feedback signal to robot can be used to simulate the effect of Human touch during testing.
