Recently high-performance, high-efficiency, and eco-friendly drive are development trend in gasoline engines. Accordingly, high-fuel efficiency is one of the most important projects as engineers develop automotive engine's performance and hardware. Automotive engines provide drivers with not only driving power to move but also convenience to drive easily. For this convenience, automotive engines operate Front End Belt Drive (FEAD) system such as alternator, A/C compressor and P/S pump, and the engines usually spend 30%∼40% their driving power to activate FEAD system. This thesis introduces measuring friction methods and test process to actualize high-fuel efficiency in gasoline engines through developing FEAD system components or mechanism. Fundamental data regarding high-fuel efficiency was acquired through measuring original friction torque at FEAD system with specialized torque-meter which was designed for measuring FEAD system friction torque at Crank shaft pulley.
