Selective catalyst reduction(SCR) catalyst integrated with wall flow particulate filters (SCRF) are widely employed in exhaust aftertreatment systems of diesel engines to meet the stringent NOx and particulate emissions requirements of Euro6 and China6 standard. NOx is reduced by ammonia generated from urea injection while the filter effectively traps and burn the particulate matter periodically in a process called regeneration. The engine control unit(ECU) effectively manages urea injection quantity and timing, soot burning frequency for the stable functioning of SCRF without impacting drivability. The control unit uses calibratable lookup tables generated from extensive hardware testing to get information about the current condition of SCRF as a function of main exhaust state variables to control the NOx reduction and particulate regeneration process.
