This paper depict the difference in the endurance factor of safety with usage of static and quasi static FE analysis and corrective measures take to solve the problem. The importance of the dynamic loading and subsequent effect of it on the multi axial fatigue analysis. Considering the modern trend prevailing among the vehicle manufacturers and specifically talking about two wheeler industry, it is clear that while the engine remains the same but the frame is changed to cater the market with new models to cut down on the development time. Initially the crankcase was designed for a double cradle frame where the crankcase was mounted on the frame. Later, the frame design was changed to single cradle where engine acts as a stress member link. This kind of arrangement makes the crankcase mountings participate in the chassis loads. Therefore, the crankcase mounting experiences road loads when the vehicle encounter the road irregularities.

A Parametric Multi Body Approach to Find the Key Elements Influencing the Steering Torque Applied by Rider on a Motorcycle

This paper describes about handling validation of a motorcycle on a steady state condition. Nowadays, it is very usual and common to get a feedback by motorcycle test riders that the steering feel is heavy due to which more effort is required to complete a full track circuit. So it has become a necessity to focus the study on handling dynamics of motorcycle at the initial stage itself using a numerical tool. To decide the handling characteristics it is very important to focus on the steering effort required at the handle bar by the rider, as it is the main control to study the ‘out of plane’ dynamics. To test the vehicle for steering performance, track radius and velocity were chosen as the variables to avoid the transient behavior and identify the key parameters at a faster rate. To study & investigate the steering effort influencing factors, an MBD numerical tool helped to solve the problem.

Motor scooters are popular in most parts of the world, especially in countries with local manufacturers. Parking, storage, and traffic issues in crowded cities, along with the easy driving position makes them a popular mode of transportation. Motor scooters are the segment of 2 wheelers which is driven by the entire family with ease unlike motorcycles which is a male dominated segment. Due to the importance that the scooters hold in the present time, it has become very important to manufacture stable, light weight yet robust scooters. For the best product in the market, testing is given a great importance in automotive manufacturing companies. Virtual testing has been the latest development in terms of testing a vehicle during the design stage itself. Multi Body Dynamics approach is used to study - 1) the articulation of various sub-assemblies and 2) the static & dynamic loads generated at various attachment points of the scooter.
