Semiconductor Protection and Control System of Vehicle Circuits

2010-04-12
2010-01-0037
Since vehicle fires associated with electrical failures take place frequently all over the world, auto engineers have been making great efforts to solve the problem, but most of the efforts are only focused on the wiring improvement, which is not enough. In order to eliminate these fires, the author had devised an electronic circuit protector, the Semiconductor Breaker/Relay (SBR). Based on a modified SBR, several other control devices, such as the Voltage and Current Adjustor of the Generator (VCAG), the Semiconductor Start Relay (SSR), and the Semiconductor Protection and Control System (SPCS) of vehicle circuits, have been presented in this paper.

This paper presents the structure of the control module (CUi and CUv) used in control unit SD08, Semiconductor Breaker and Relay (SBR) and the Charging and Discharging Adjuster of batteries (CDAB) etc, and introduces the electronic monitoring and control of vehicle circuit system with SBR and the cyclic charging of batteries with CDAB. It is proved by theoretical analysis and experiments that, by using SBR and CDAB etc, the circuit system can be protected more effectively than by using traditional circuit protectors, vehicle fires caused by short circuits can be prevented, and the battery service life can be extended.

Design and Research of Vehicle Circuit Semiconductor Protection System

2007-08-05
2007-01-3702
On the basis of the author's recent research on vehicle circuit protection, a Semiconductor Breaker & Relay (SBR) and a Semiconductor Protection and Control System (SPCS) of vehicle electrical components etc. have been developed. The circuit structure and function of SBR and SPCS etc. were analyzed and explained in detail. By replacing the conventional fuse, circuit breaker, and/or relay, SBRs and their different combinations constitute the SPCS. SPCS could protect circuits and electrical components from over-current, over-voltage, and battery reversing, prevent vehicle fire caused by short circuit, and extend battery's service life by over-discharging and supplemental charging control.
