Development of Down-sized Motor Stator

Down-sizing and dielectric insulation were required for the traction motors of hybrid vehicles. By utilizing the newly developed coil with thick resin insulation atop the conventional enamel film, the use of conventional inter-phase insulation paper was abolished. Furthermore, by adopting the stair-shaped coil structure and spiral winding configuration, the stator size was minimized. With the above technologies, the motor installation to smaller hybrid vehicles was realized, thus contributing to weight reduction of hybrid vehicles.

Development of New Hybrid Transaxle for Sub-Compact-Class Vehicles

Recently, due to mounting concerns regarding the environment and energy conservation, demand for compact and hybrid vehicles with good fuel economy has been increasing. Toyota Motor Corporation has developed its first hybrid transaxle for installation in sub-compact class vehicles. This new hybrid transaxle is both smaller and lighter than the P410 hybrid transaxle for compact class vehicles, including the 2009 Prius. This was accomplished by creating new designs of the gear train, motor, and motor cooling system, and by adopting advanced technology. This paper describes the major features and performance of this transaxle in detail.

The development of this transmission has been aimed at improving power performance and fuel economy, achieving the world's top-level weight reduction and compact size, while maintaining high torque capacity. In order to achieve these goals, the gear train and motor have been newly designed, and advanced technology has been applied. Moreover, this hybrid transmission achieves seamless acceleration and quiet performance. This paper describes the major features and performance of this transmission in detail.
