Improvement of Fuel Consumption of Neat Biofuel Diesel Engine with Reduced Injection Driving Torque

2013-09-24

In recent years, trans-esterified vegetable oils have been widely applied to diesel engine in order to suppress greenhouse gas emissions. However, “neat” vegetable oils are expected to be directly used to resolve some difficulties faced in their use, such high viscosity and slightly high fuel consumption. In this study neat linseed oil has been investigated as a neat vegetable oil. It was found to show higher fuel consumption than diesel fuel, however at the same time it showed lower indicated fuel consumption than diesel fuel. These results suggest some increase in engine friction loss in a neat biofuel diesel engine. Studies have been extensively investigated the difference in friction loss and a newly developed “improved deceleration method” has been applied.

Oil pump down sizing is one of the effective method to improve engine friction loss. Reducing the required amount of lubricating engine oil can be achieved by the application of a new crankshaft bearing with an eccentric oil groove. By adopting a bearing with an eccentric groove, we found the well balanced specification which can keep the necessary amount of oil to the crankshaft pin and reduce leaking oil from crankshaft main journal. Measuring oil amount distribution in engine running condition simultaneously and checking capability of eliminating contamination analytically have achieved.

Piston Temperature Measuring Technology Using Electromagnetic Induction

2001-05-07
2001-01-2027
Authors have developed an apparatus which measures the piston temperature using electromagnetic induction. The characteristics of this apparatus are as follows; 1 Applicable to 6 points per cylinder and all cylinders 2 Capable of measuring while the engine is running from start to 6000r/min full-load operation 3 Wide measuring range; from -30 to 400 °C 4 High accuracy; ±2.5 °C 5 Quick and easy setup 6 High durability This technology contributes to realizing the best balance of piston reliability and matching of combustion conditions. In this report, authors analyzed its influences upon piston temperature when the ignition timing, the oil/water temperature or the oil flow from piston jet were changed, respectively.
