Wheel Air Drag Prediction Technique Using WAD Parameter

A wheel averaged depth (WAD) parameter, representing the average depth difference of the wheel, was introduced and applied weighting values for each section to achieve an enhanced correlation with wheel drag. A novel technique and program for predicting wheel drag were developed, incorporating the automatic calculation of the WAD from wheel data. The correlation between WAD and wheel drag was analyzed in mass-produced wheels from HKMC, confirming a significant improvement in the R2 value compared to the existing correlation between wheel opening area and wheel drag, approximately doubling its effectiveness.
