HMI Proximity Sensing for Vehicle Personalization and Enhanced Safety

2011-04-12
2011-01-0043
Human proximity sensing can provide a high degree of safety and user security for passive entry systems in motor vehicles. Combining the ease of passive entry with proximity sensing creates an even more desirable feature for motor vehicles. By empowering the vehicle owner to program specific gestures, passive entry systems become highly personalized and therefore more secure. The system also allows for gaining entry to a vehicle when the owner's hands are full for hands-free entry. Proximity sensing of an occupant in the driver's seat prevents unwanted entry by others. Because these systems are active all of the time, it is important to minimize battery power. The non-contact sensing system uses typically less than 50 microamps, to commence the first stage of discrimination. Other vehicle systems are then enabled that sense for a key fob RFID presence to unlock the vehicle.

Instrument Panel and Cockpit Designers Gain Freedom of Styling with Unique Capacitive Touch Screens

An iQ Power™ reconfigurable touch screen system dramatically enhances instrument panel (IP) appearance and functionality at a reduced cost to the vehicle. Information displayed on the IP is completely reconfigurable at both the OEM and end-user levels thereby maximizing flexibility in IP design and appearance. Through simple end-user commands, or within OEM software upgrades, a completely new IP appearance can be achieved without purchasing a new vehicle. Reduced OEM manufacturing lead times are also realized as traditional tooling is eliminated. Design concepts in interior styling and function are captured in elegant sculpted surfaces contrasting ordinary flat panel faceplates. This is especially true for vehicle center stacks and instrument panels. Smooth and flowing touch panel surfaces are made possible by direct application of touch screen components to the back side of contoured touch panel surfaces.

Much Improved Vision with ClearFast™ (Heated Fluid Washer System)

2004-10-26
2004-01-2649
The ClearFast™ heated fluid washer system provides 700% more heated fluid than other systems. The ClearFast’s unique dual heating elements provides instant (<12 seconds) and stored heated fluid. The efficient heating configuration uses the minimum electrical energy from the vehicles charging system. The first heated chamber (instant) quickly clears frost during initial vehicle start-up. The second heated chamber (stored fluid) provides quick windshield cleaning for snow/ice, dirt and bug residue while driving. The dual heating element allows the system to maintain a reservoir of heated fluid, but maximizes heating efficiency when the reservoir is depleted. The system requires only three simple electrical connections to the vehicle and is plumbed in-line between the washer pump and spray nozzles. The adaptive control software monitors not only the operating parameters of the system, but the health of the vehicle charging system to ensure undue strain is not placed upon it.
