Application of Life Cycle Analysis to End of Life Vehicles Recycling Process

2013-04-08
2013-01-1285
This study aims to determine environmental aspects of an end-of-vehicle recycling process through life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. Functional unit of the study was an end-of-vehicle with a weight of 1432 kg. System boundaries included transportation of the scrap car to disassembly and shredding facility, disassembly and shredding processes and transportation of the materials to recycling facilities. Data regarding process was gathered from a shredding facility, literature and the libraries of the SimaPro 7.3.2. Gathered data was evaluated through CML 2 baseline 2000 methodology by the means of abiotic depletion, acidification, global warming, ozone depletion, human toxicity, fresh water aquatic ecotoxicity, marine aquatic ecotoxicity, terrestrial ecotoxicity and photochemical oxidation. According to results, transportation and diesel consumption are the important factors for ELV recycling.

Fatigue Strength of an Urban Type Midi Bus Vehicle Chassis by Using Fem Analysis and Accelerated Fatigue Life Test

2009-04-20
2009-01-1453
Theoretical and experimental techniques in road data are needed for design of vehicle body and chassis according to nowadays technology concept. In this paper, both theoretical analysis and experimental accelerated techniques are explained considering domestic and export production of Anadolu ISUZU company urban type midi bus vehicle. First of all, the chassis and body (skeleton system) of the midi bus vehicle were modeled in 3D by using Catia program and then finite element model (FEM) of the chassis and the body were created by using Ansys, Workbench program. Static and dynamic loading models obtained from dynamic wheel loads acting on the vehicle were developed. In this model, during the service life of the vehicle under vertical and lateral dynamic loads (straight good road, straight bad road, cornering bad road, and singular obstacle road) arising from the road conditions were taken into account.

Accelerated Fatigue Life Test of Domestic Midi Bus's Front Suspension Springs

2007-08-05
2007-01-3646
In this paper, first of all, after load distribution of the front and rear axles of domestic midi bus have been measured, force on the parabolic springs of the front axle was calculated. Level of the good, middle and bad roads of Adana city in south of Turkey were determined and strain and displacement data have been recorded from connected strain-gage and LVDT sensors on the front axle parabolic springs of the midi bus. Test mechanism of the front axle suspension system connected chassis like midi bus was assembled in the laboratory. Recorded road roughness displacement, strain, and brake force strain data of the parabolic spring were processed by LMS Tecware, n-code ICE-flow 4.0 and special written computer program for this accelerated life cycle project. In addition to this, rainflow analysis, cumulative damage values, appending brake signals data in these different roads and every road damages have been calculated.

Fatigue Strength of a Rim Model with FEM Using a New Approximation Technique

2001-10-01
2001-01-3339
In this study, a domestic wheel rim model has been modeled using FEM in order to calculate its fatigue strength. In other words, a different approximation algorithm has been developed to obtain service life of the rim. The effects of dynamic and static loads on the rim have been calculated and included to the FEM analysis. As a new approximation technique, during the service life of a vehicle under dynamic loads arising from the road conditions as taking into account, load spectrum has been constituted. In the design spectrum that has been utilized in our calculations, instead of using straight good road conditions, other fifty percent of forces that have been corresponding lifetime of the vehicle, accepted as hundred percent of dynamic and static forces caused by bad road conditions acting on the rim. As a result of this study, the calculated results have been compared to the experimental data taken from literature review.
